Starting with Commodore computers and BBS systems in the early 80s, Maxie D. Collier has been online for twenty-five years and an independent media producer for more than twenty years.

    He self-published his first book, the LA Survival Handbook, in 1987. He began his professional TV and film career in January 1990, as an employee of Black Entertainment TV (BET).

    Maxie co-produced his first feature film, Detention, in 1997 and later the same year, wrote and directed the feature film BMORE HACKS. In 1998, he self-published The Digital Video Filmmaker's Handbook, one of the first books published on desktop digital filmmaking.

    Collier later licensed the text to Internet TV start-up, IFILM.com. The book was re-released in 2001, as the IFILM Digital Video Filmmaker's Handbook. The manuscript became a bestseller and has been used as a teaching text at more than two dozen colleges and universities.
