Been tempting to spin up a competitor but the business/compliance side seems nightmarish whilst the actual tech aspects are trivial on modern hardware.
Must be nice making SF rates out in Algeria!
What's the relationship between NGI and Nix? Vaguely remember another HNer suggested some sort of conflict of interest there re: funds.
Was anything valuable actually built? Thought those 'projects' were just subsidy... Europe could easily have its own stack but I'm not sure taxpayer money would ever reach the right people to make it happen.
WASD is my home row, still 120-140. I lowkey judge any developer who is noticable slow at typing as I can't imagine they're using a computer effectively at such a pace given how much keyboard hitting needs to occur…
I'm biased but my money's on the end result of AI being fewer engineers per team but also teams as a concept becoming obsolete. Why keep legacy structures, with luxuries like POs or PMs if AI becomes powerful as you say…
In this scenario who would be buying this product that offers 'zero economic value compared to AI because AI gets so good and so cheap'.
My experiences track this, being lazy and clever is a cheat code in many ways.
That's a shame, is there any funding transparency? Wasn't aware they were EU funded — thought they were independent!
No Discord, please. Plenty of FOSS alternatives exist.
(You wouldn't) Patting themselves on the back for 'fixing' a self-created problem... EC2 is the wrong abstraction for this use case imo
Feature, not a bug.
No, I don't follow legacy hypervisors but fair enough perhaps my initial impression was off-base... still you can appreciate the irony of complaining about Rocket Company getting free stuff :/
We're not going to waste days chasing them when we could waste days writing a blog post to advertise our product. Genius marketing, I guess Rocket Company is supposed to be exploiting the OSS community, but who built…
My guess is money laundering, given that the product is pretty vapourware-y (as a game dev in a past life: Vircadia looks more like 'how a web dev thinks multiplayer games work' aka basically unusable in a serious…
I've seen worse but honestly you may be overshooting: agency work, education, and seven years of 'independent consultant' reads like you just coasted after the initial few years... for 20YOE I see limited leadership or…
Isn't being run by a bank just a roundabout way to be run by the gov't? Your root of trust for said bank id is gov't documents, right?
Isn't YC well positioned to disrupt Google's monopoly? They just need to pause funding AI slop and focus on quality again, even if it means doubling the standard deal to get the necessary talent interested.
Ugly indeed, hopefully a successor that is actually open can emerge.
Consider that game programmers are generally more skilled than enterprise devs due to tougher domain constraints and role scarcity.
You can consistently sell trash, you just need a captured market.
16/20 speedrun, all my mistakes were within the final 5 weirdly. Boredom?
Interesting, thanks!
