When researching this topic myself, I have found volumes of wonderful insight in the Google Site Reliability Engineering book, available to read free online at: https://landing.google.com/sre/book/index.html
Once you've spent all this time setting up a NodeJS stack.... why use PHP at all? Ie. just use Node for the API/Server, you're already setup, and the stack would be 100% one language.
