async/await is ugly and hard to use and understand for me. It is pretty reasonable that rust chose it because it is a zero-cost abstraction. But i just don't like it.
It is good enough if AI can clone someone else's intelligence.
I'm pretty sure there are a lot of projects using some language just because the developer likes it. Even in a company, personal preference could still affect a lot in choosing the language though they might concern…

Sadly there is no other better option. Most foss don't user friendly enough and Apple just aims to against humanity.
Canokey is also a cheap open source alternative hardware key to Yubikey.

I would prefer AppImage or nix than Flatpak. It just seems to be yet another package manager but more difficult to use and much slower.
