PG-13 is the worst rating imaginable now, because it contains some highly anticipated titles, overhyped to capture the tween audience begging mom and dad to take them to the movies, yet PG-13 movies are so watered down, and always balance for feel-good morality and happy endings, as to be predictable to the point of being an unwatchable waste of time.

R ratings by now are watered down by a different principle, profitability in international markets (angling toward simplistic dialog for lowest common denominator translations), combined with a pool over careerist lapdog actors and directors that lack the spine to stand up for a good story arc, which in turn is reflected by the spinelessness of risk averse producers and investors leery of defying focus group and test market expectations.
