StreamShuttle was born out of a frustrating quest to find a simple, private, and secure video monitoring solution that also had all the features you would expect from a modern network video recorder. All of the existing solutions either relied on cloud services, required vendor-specific hardware, were overly complicated to configure or lacked essential features like secure remote access, object detection, two-way audio and push notifications. I used one of these other solutions for a little while. However it wasn't until I had family and friends asking for recommendations on how to run their own video monitoring systems, and I not having a single good recommendation, that I decided to start building StreamShuttle.

Most consumers are completely unaware of how many of the more common IP cameras work these days. More specifically, many of these cameras can potentially be accessed remotely or that the footage is uploaded to the cloud outside of their control, potentially exposing some of their most vulnerable moments.
