The purpose is to detect if text was written by ChatGPT, so a university could check whether an essay is LLM generated, social media company could detect LLM spam, etc.
I'm sympathetic to the many newly minted free speech absolutists in this thread, but this sort of banning was always the status quo for right wingers until Musk bought Twitter anyways.
The people who released opioids upon the American public didn't get fines like this. Insane
