Sysadmin in a DevOps environment. Interesting security, storage, OpenStack, performance testing, configuration management tools, and more. Libraries (the ones with books) are cool too.
I don't think there is a killer use case for 5G yet, but I don't mind. I think the performance improvements alone are worth it. It's hard to predict the future, and while often there are points of diminishing returns in…
Because the OpenStack control plane is made up of many (some required, some optional) services that are basically Python daemons. It makes sense to run them in containers and manage their life cycle...which means it…
You don't have to use a distro. There are well tested puppet modules, which you could make into your own "distro", as well as openstack-ansible and kolla, and openstack-helm which uses helm to deploy openstack. There is…
I think they are quite different solutions, and each benefits from the other. Further, they also tend to run into the same concerns at the about the same time in their life time, eg. concerns around complexity.
I agree, I'm not sure the virtual kubelet concept is a great idea overall. It sounds good on the surface, but most of the time these kind of abstractions do more harm then good, as far as I'm concerned. But, I could be…
I think it's easy to dismiss Toronto, but the quality of life items you listed are absolutely correct, as far as I'm concerned. If only housing weren't so expensive and we had a better transit system.
A previous poster made the point of not having a major top tier tech firm with an HQ here as well. It's an interesting point I haven't thought of. I know MS is building a new big office. Google is planning a pretty…
I concur. It's very weird. You could go to some kind of blockchain related event every week.
+1 to that. There is so much good food here it's amazing. Though driving to get it can be a huge pain.
Thanks. I agree, there is some kind of vendetta. However, messing with Toronto's economy could have disastrous effects. I guess we'll see how it plays out. :)
I agree with everything you've said, and that first sentence is a killer, but I don't quite get the "picked apart by the province" part. Could you expand on that a bit?
I think Calgary is a good choice for a place to live in Canada. However, I don't agree that the meetups in Toronto show legacy technology thinking. I just went to a meetup at Shopify on Istio. Just Istio. Google and…
I would say this comment is accurate. I just moved to Toronto. The cost of housing is obnoxious and makes the overall cost of living extremely high, and unfortunately salaries don't make up for it. There is no doubt…
Oh this is really interesting. I'm doing some work with Dokku so this could be a helpful add-on.
I'm surprised this isn't getting more press. Shaw in Alberta has been having problems all day, not sure if it is because of this but I would hazard a guess that it is.
I really like this idea. Now just need to figure out something to setup to use it...
I remember initially looking at the saltstack docs and deciding, like the author of the post, that they were extremely dense at first glance. It's interesting to read that after he'd used salt for a while the dense…
I am using it, works great. I tried a couple other similar services and they were slightly more complicated than I wanted--packagecloud is simple and straightforward. Also I like the clean design of the site.

I feel like the ability to job hop like this will be in fairly small, concentrated geographic areas. In areas that aren't as concentrated it'll end up being pretty hard to do this.

Not sure, I've not heard of UDDI before. Mostly I mean, in a really general sense, that servers come up and become part of a cluster or group of systems providing a service.
Interesting. I definitely think service discovery and such are going to become a lot more popular in the near future.
I just setup a linked in account recently. Felt like I didn't have much choice.
I do wonder a bit about the pollen service. Seems to have it's positives and negatives.
