I believe salt stops being effective around -12C, so for colder places it's not an option.

In Civ 6 you can create corps/armies with 2/3 units. Still one unit per tile but a bit better than the Civ 5 system.
There are lots of great apps for android, I use one called Relay. It's about as good as apollo, IMO.
I imagine video games have eaten up a lot of the market for traditional toys like Lego.
