I’m honestly surprised how little this is discussed on HN. The government even shut off internet access. Even the Hong Kong authorities didn’t do that.
The protesters in Hong Kong were also throwing Molotov cocktails, destroying public property, and beating people up, but Western news media didn’t call it “violent.” Perhaps that’s the new normal?
