Google is paying for the Colab notebook and compute, that's free for users. The problem was the ~6GB model hosted on GCS, GCS has very high network egress costs.
This isn't fair to tests. They are actually far more fair and objective than BigCo promo processes. You can't fake doing a variety of hard math questions the way you can move up the ladder due things like nepotism.
it's misleading for new hires, amazon has to pay them well. but internal growth at amazon is horrible and additional comp is heavily delayed
it's what upper management rewards if the senior scientists who can't even fizzbuzz at Amazon are any indication
