Performance is the power feature that's missing imho. Just go bench any amount of disk I/O or memory based benchmarks.
Bitrig already did the work. We will see if it ever gets accepted.
Soft Updates are not an alternative to journaling. Andy over at NetBSD killed that as soon as they had wapbl.
