Ask HN: How to make 1-on-1s better?
I've been thinking a lot about the jobs I've loved and the jobs I haven't.
As they say, people don't quit their job, they quit there manager.
The question is, is there something you wish you could give to your manager to help them be better?
I always felt my 1-on-1s in jobs I didn't enjoy lacked any personal engagement. The manager asked if I was happy, I said yes and the conversation ended. Could this be an area of improvement with something more structured? If so, what do you wish your manager would ask during 1-on-1s?
