Ask HN: Best Domain Name Registrar?

I have a few domains with Namecheap, but lately their lack of 2FA authenticator support (ie. they only support SMS) has caused me some trouble. What would be a good and similarly priced replacement that supports it?

I ran into https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10181931, but I didn't really see anything that stood out.

name.com is hands down the BEST domain register I've ever used.

Customer support is top notch and their website usability is fantastic.

Once you start getting over a certain domain count (cannot remember limit) their pricing becomes second to none.

Something which they've just revised / I recently noticed is their search url was revised.

I can type / have bookmarked: https://www.name.com/domain/search/

I can put my search query straight at the end and it works.

eg: https://www.name.com/domain/search/mydomainsearch

Can you explain the bit about pricing, though? I was given a retention discount years ago when I moved a domain away (and that discount is still active for all .com registrations), but is there some other discount that I haven't received? As someone with a ton of domains there (but definitely not as much as a squatter or reseller—50+, not 500+), I'm curious what I'm missing out on.

For $50 extra Fabulous.com will send you a physical ubikey usb device that lets you lock your domains from modification with customized levels of locking. I feel very secure that my domains won't be stolen from there even if my email account was compromised.

I really like iwantmyname.com. They sell all of the domain extension (including .io), their interface is simple and not spammy (GoDaddy is so obnoxious about upwelling), and they have nice add-ons that let you set up e.g. Heroku in one click. I'm surprised they haven't caught on more, they're really great and I've been using them for over five years.

Seconding this. iwantmyname is absolutely no-nonsense, and it shows in their UI.

(And yes, they have 2FA)

I use them as well. The only issue is that the DNS page is painfully slow.
