Are they wrong?

How is it that’s Saudi Arabia, a country with an abysmal human rights record, is granted a seat in the UNHRC?

Saudi Arabia got a seat because there were four open spots for the Asia region and four countries put forth their candidacy.

If any other Asia region country campaigned for a position Saudi Arabia would have lost.

Its a fantastic decision (especially even from the standpoint of making a stand).

The middle east is full of small countries who have engaged in sustained abuses of human rights, and there are a lot of them, all with the same voting power as nations hundreds of times their size.

>and a failure to hold human rights abusers accountable.

I guess with the whole child separation debacle the US should currently be glad about that....

Remember the abduction & torture system they ran for years during the Afghanistan&Iraq war? They indeed better don't complain too much about 'failure to hold human rights abusers accountable'.
