Palestinian-Israelis* are free as blacks under Jim Crow laws were free. Maybe less of a "no colored allowed" signs out there, but the sentiment is. FFS, Netanyahu just admitted in public what until now was known but wasn't said: a large part of the Jewish population of Israel does not consider Palestinian-Israelis to be equal.
Just ask your Palestinian-Israeli colleagues.
* the term you used could be considered derogatory, I'd try to not use it if I were you.
for non Israeli readers, I'll have to explain the joke: the probability he has one is minuscule to none.
> Why could the term "Arabic Muslims" be considered derogatory?
In reference to ethnically Palestinian citizens of Israel, it might be considered derogatory for the same reason referring to Muslim American citizens with ancestry in sub-Saharan Africa as “African Muslims” would be.
Give me a break, I have been living in Israel and the anna loulu is an hipster dance bar with a very distinct population. What you don't want to mention is that most of the Arab community is much more conservative than your typical anna loulou customer and the extremists among them will kill their daughter if they found her there.
Another thing you don't want to mention is that unlike the Jewish lefty hipsters of Tel Aviv who live in their own protected bubble and pat themselves on the back when they meet their gay Arab hairdresser in a bar, most of the Jewish population interact with Arabs almost every day in a much more banal and less glamorous way without too much fanfare. It is exactly like white lefties in the US who are excited when they go to some bar and become "friends" with some ghetto black guy for 5 minutes, a guy that they will never send their kids to the same school with his kids.
Comparing the situation in Israel to Jim Crow is just disrespectful to the African Americans who had to go through those time, the Arabs in Israel are equal citizens by law and are doing much better than the black community in the US, even today. All that without even getting into this little thing of the Arab-Israeli conflict which you completely ignore as if it has no influence about the attitude of both sides and it is all some Jewish racism.
Finally, Netanyahu didn't "admit in public" to anything, if you speak Hebrew you know exactly what he said and what "medinat kol ezrache" means and opposed to a nation state, but it is not different to this whole post which tries to push insidious propaganda rather than to depict the reality on the ground.
I am not trying to pretend that the two communities in Israel are not separated, but don't try to pretend as if it is by some discriminatory attitude of Jews and don't try to pretend like the Arabs are equal to black African Americans. Don't try to pretend that all Jews are like the disconnected little group of the extreme left in Tel Aviv and don't try to pretend as if the Arabs don't want to keep things like that from their own reasons and it is all came out of some Jewish racism.
