That's uncompetitive, everyone should just get the browser they like either it is IE9, Chrome, Firefox, Opera or Safari - they just need to get rid of IE8/7 and PLEASE ie6.
When Microsoft itself started a campain against IE6 (http://www.ie6countdown.com/) users should do a small lookup over all those other updated browsers for XP.
Good question. A Microsoft Developer Evangelist emailed yesterday to say that they actually found it very funny. They've also had about six months to get in touch with me about the domain. Needless to say, they didn't.

But please understand that I didn't do this to poke fun of Microsoft or anything like that. It was just funny at the time. I'd completely forgotten about it until yesterday morning when my inbox was suddenly flooded.

IMO MS usually fail with their evangelists. Looks like MS too bureaucratic inside. I saw one very good MS enthusiast who now work for MS - now he is mostly ms advertiser. So i seriously doubt they can monitor all such notable points and be in touch.
And i should admit its pretty funny (despite its offtopically for HN) if this was done far before IE9 release.
Offtopic: for best effect then - make a brouser detection and show different recommendations\redirects for other browsers ;). Be fair then ;)
