How much energy is saved if we start producing only devices with e-ink displays?

Without the patents. Because let's be real: zero carbon is more important than the ego of a monopoly-rights -holder, the propertied-class owner of a bloated company which has made use of publicly funded research from day one.

I'm trying to parse your sentence and having difficulty. It sounds like you're trying to say E-Ink is abusing patents and has benefited from publicly funded research. Is that what you're saying and if so, I'd be very interested to see citations to back up the two claims.

I know E-Ink had some founders from MIT, Stanford, and some other big unis but I've never heard that they benefited from or directly use publicly funded research exclusively in their products. At least anymore than any other display industry manufacturer like Samsung, LG, etc. I also see lots of claims on HN that E-Ink is abusing patents and since I happen to work in the display industry and I hadn't heard that myself, I asked the posters for evidence of it. Thus far, I have not seen a positive response, only lazy replies like patent thicket and when I asked do they actually work in the display industry, no reply, so I'm pretty sure these are just people who don't really know what they're talking about.
