Ask HN: Are there any bots among us?

5 points by patates ↗ HN
Considering how great GPT-3 is at generating text (see: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23885684), I thought maybe someone already started generating HN comments and posting them.

1 - Did anyone try this without getting caught? 2 - If someone creates a bot that always manages to contribute to discussions and keeps it within the rules, would that be against the rules itself? Should it be?

Note: This is not a project proposal, I'm just fascinated by GPT-3.

Note2: No, I'm not a bot.

Someone might have attempted it as a test or experiment.

As long as hiring some scammy online marketer/promoter/influencer is cheaper than using GPT-3 do to the same, GPT-3 is not going to take over.

> Should it be?

It might be silly if Hacker News was just filled with bots talking to each other :D

That's what a bot would say.

Here was a submission that got pretty big. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23893817
That was fun. Only two people suspected it was GPT-3, and one of them was reprimanded for suggesting (although rather aggressively) it!?

I never gave any credit to the concept of "AI overlords" but seeing people genuinely defend it makes me think again.

That's incredibly proteinist* of you!
