[ 4.5 ms ] story [ 27.9 ms ] thread
Upvoted in order to get some objective input from HN on this. To me this sounds like potentially fake news, but I simply don't know. Or just a small that is being inflated in order to make Ukraine look bad. Biased angle? Is there another reason mainstream media doesn't pick up on this?
I think it's the same as groups like Al-Nusra Front in Syria, those are the types of groups willing to do the fighting even if they are ideologically stinky, so we will support them for now so they can do the fighting, and then try to make sure they don't achieve much more power later on.
> and then try to make sure they don't achieve much more power later on

Which unfortunately, has almost always failed.

This time it is also important to remember, that these are not some separate insurgents, these are entities entangled with government, which normalizes it.

It is not 'fake news' it is true. Azov Battalion have been fighting alongside Ukrainians for years against Putin, and Russia. [0] Even Facebook is praising them [1]

The mainstream media is not reporting on this because it further attempts to legitimise Putin's 'de-nazifying' Ukraine narrative by using Azov Battalion as an excuse to invade. Then he will fallaciously point out that 'The west is on the side of supporting neo-Nazis' which will give bad optics for Ukraine and split opinion in Russia and the rest of Europe.

Sometimes the mainstream media doesn't report the whole story, and just simply hides it and promotes their own propaganda. Multiple sources always tell you the full story.

It's a perspective that gets dismissed in western popular media, despite factual evidence:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azov_Battalion https://www.euronews.com/my-europe/2021/03/19/in-ukraine-ste... https://www.ukrweekly.com/uwwp/local-governments-name-stadiu... https://www.cbsnews.com/news/us-votes-against-anti-nazi-reso...

This obviously makes Ukraine look bad, because it IS bad. But given that this matter is heavily entangled in the reaons of the war, and current post-truth climate in the media, facts that don't fit black-white narrative simply get dismissed as Russian propaganda (which, truth be told, is one of the facts they actually base their propaganda on).

Obviously real-world stuff is gray and muddy as it always is in such conflicts.

Factual evidence that right wing movement are involved in the army of the whole world, can be found anywhere https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2018/08/russia-is-...

The whole soccer hooligans scene in Russia tends to be right wing, nazi, or something in between..

The only thing that matters now is: since 2013 a pacifist country is being invaded by another that deny its own rights to exist. Only one country is under heavy attacks. All the other topics are irrelevant now.
