Is this really a surprise though? If you want to make as much money as possible, one way is by cutting spending, wages, food, hardware, whatever you can. I don't agree with this, though it is hardly surprising when companies do this, even more so when large companies do it.
It says this in the article but it is part of the their leadership principles https://www.amazon.jobs/en/principles

So not unexpected really. This article just shows some people took it a bit too far. Which can be painful.

The article mentions employees receiving half a bagel instead of a full bagel at one meeting, but how many people actually eat a full bagel? Sounds like a great way to reduce food waste and promote healthy caloric intake.
At some places I have worked I have had to bring my own bagels and cereal! I guess I have really had it tough.
I have a friend at Amazon Studios who is at the top executive level. It sure the exact name, but was coming from an EVP title at a competing studio. Found out when traveling internationally Amazon would not allow for Business Class.
It would be particularly disturbing if it was not the case for high level executives. Culture starts from the top after all.
I can respect this, if it's same across all the levels. It's surprising how many company have different rules for VP level execs vs line engineers
Interesting take. I’ve not heard that perspective. I never once that it odd that a VP gets to take business class. Seems like a reasonable perk. If the company is going to ask that you spend 10 hours in a plane, the lease they can do is spring for a scent experience.
Not sure where those people worked but we do not have to share chargers lol. Just scan your badge and get one. Why do you need two chargers anyway? Just take the one with you.
These are Amazon AWS employees, probably the best paid across all their workforce.

But I felt the comment about being forced to use Windows was just cringy. Well, unless these were their iOS developers :)
