Tell HN: Amazon delivered just the box with the product removed

I just received my Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro Earbud headphones. The item was supposed to be new. The manufacturer's box looked normal except the security seal was broken. I looked inside and it was completely empty. I no longer trust Amazon with electronics purchases. I'm curious if anyone else has encountered similar issues and if there are more trustworthy online marketplaces. There are some serious quality control issues going on at Amazon.

So your basing this on a sample of one? I'm sure it happens with every retailer. The question is what's the post issue experience like.

I had a similar experience with an order from BestBuy for an PS3. The entire box was empty except for some bags of rice to weight it down properly.

I will concede that Amazon immediately initiated the refund process without hassle. And yes there is a statistical question, which is why I'm asking other users what their experience is like with other retailers.
If they're going to refund your purchase without hassle (which seems to be the case) then why would you lose trust in the company? If anything it should strengthen your trust in the company since it might've been stolen after delivery?
Lately I've been buying directly from the brands I like more and more often. Sure, it may take an extra couple of days for shipping, but I feel it's worth it. Plus a lot of stores now have shopify pay and other payment options that make it just as fast to checkout.

I've been keeping track of the stores I like in a side project (https://zochre.com/) although it doesn't have any electronics stores yet.

Happened with me when buying a nvm-e samsung evo 970 (if I'm not mistaken). I was getting a full new PC and only opened the ssd box after all components arrived, two weeks after receiving it.

I opened a ticket with amazon explaining what happened, got a call from their support to confirm that the violated box was the product one and not the carrier one, and then got reimbursed by the end of the same day.

In the past 15 years, I’ve had one wrong item shipped by B&H, and they replaced it no problem. Before that I lived in NY and could go to the store and watch stuff zipping around in the overhead baskets. They’re basically my default if I can’t get something like that locally. Local now is usually Microcenter.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try B&H next time.
