I'm repeating the obvious, but in isometric land there's no perspective. If you render a bunch of floating cubes, it's impossible for a viewer to determine their depth.

The big difference between an isometric game, and a regular 3d game is that you have to account for this. If you don't, your game will look like an MC Escher painting.
