Can we get this as the default in all states?

Auto manufacturers tracking, collecting and potentially selling your driving history and habits is a violation of privacy.

What is the threat here? Telemetry is just data collection. The pedals and steering column are physical mechanisms not networked APIs. This isn't Hollywood, you can't remotely hack into a car and steer it into oncoming traffic.
Unfortunately this is an extremely naive take.

I still think they went about that wrong. In my opinion they should have picked up the Chief of the Highway Patrol and the Department of Transportation commissioner and then taken them for a "joy ride" off road and included dashboard mounted barf bags. I think that would have warranted an immediate recall and a closer watch of all future drive-by-wire vehicles.
That's for cellular control software, not USB port.
