Confirmed: Metrics show that the Google News aggregator platform has become unavailable for many users in Russia; the incident comes amid heightened tensions between the Wagner paramilitary group and Moscow - NetBlocks
I always see stories like this. Like Facebook news influenced the election. Now about Google news. Does anyone go to Facebook for news? Or Google? I mean, if you search for something in the news, yes, but not as a starting point. Thoughts?
Many people use Facebook as their entire portal to the web. I'm sure enough people use Google News for them not to shut it down. I can imagine people clicking the news tab on Google search and I can also imagine some people using it as an unobtrustive but informative homepage, and that others may enjoy having news collected from different sources in one place (who aren't regular users of other social media).
It's not that people go anywhere. Google and Facebook hand then news and they never go anywhere else on their own initiative.
If this is your first introduction, then perhaps your news-seeking routine is limited as well, in that there is legislation in major economies like France, Australia, and Canada who legislated breaking this stranglehold-money wise at least no one cares about an informed populace.
