Oh hey they have an about box.

I work as a Technical Director for cartoons, mainly Python. Also did all IT duties at Tangent Animation in Winnipeg, including deploying and automating the render farm. I'm here because the quality of discussion is consistently higher than most other places on the internet, even in a space where I categorically disagree with quite a few of the folks who also hang out here; we are all extremely passionate about tech and that keeps us civil enough. That's pretty cool, you know?

  1. So basically things seemed great there about two months ago, I was posting about my arduino shit and my garden shit and my animals, but in the last week I got in two useless arguments with people who were fresh from…

  2. Example for me is the Orange Pi site - I just saw a post about it on Mastodon and went to the site, and for me, the big teaser image that flips between various products gives me about 1.5 seconds before it flips to the…

  3. TLDR: I want a music player that runs on Linux or a Pi, can generate algorithmic playlists/radio based on my last.fm history, integrates a streaming service for songs that aren't in my local flac collection, and is easy…

  4. I've done some messing about but I now have a couple of very specific tasks/problems in my personal life that look like prime candidates for solving with AI (lots of easily-classifiable data to train it on), and I would…

  5. I just googled an error I'm having with an ESP32 and the top link had [SOLVED] at the start so I clicked it, brainlessly assuming a forum would be at the other end. It wasn't until I read all the way through a useless…

  6. Once upon a time, Spotify made good recommendations to me, but lately, they just want to shove as much Fleetwood Mac at me as they can, to the point that I had to ban the band from my feed (I like them fine, but not…

  7. I have always chafed at handing any aspect of my life over to a corporation, but the ease and convenience of Google's ecosystem has herded me in over the years, and I never want to be without that type of "cloud" style…

  8. My wife subscribed to a magazine for a year, Country Living I think, and a $62 charge labelled "Hearst Membership" just appeared on this month's bill. She actually remembers saying no to the "membership thing" when she…

  9. Basically Google's search results are never not trying to sell me something anymore, and where I used to be able to get useful results by pruning the query with -whatidontwant modifiers, these days I just can't get the…

  10. I don't read HN on my phone, because I cannot read HN on my phone - I have font size completely cranked in my browser and phone settings, but this site comes out with like, six point text at best. My vision is bad,…

  11. I mess around with writing sometimes and I was just gazing at some pics of a PDP-8 - so gorgeous, and clearly the real world inspiration for all the "panel of blinking lights" computers we watched in 70s-80s SF. Got me…
