Wow, just checked my Spotify, and all my playlists have been made public despite being created as private!
I cannot see a way to make a private playlist, private...
Spotify has been making their desktop client inferior to the android app for a while... that said I just checked mine and the toggle is still there on android. (No idea about ios)
On desktop it's near the download button. Click the 3 dots and it should have a option in the menu to make your playlist private or public.
It seems like some of my private playlists were made public, but some are not.
If my car wouldn't be Android based, I would have switched to Apple music some time ago. But the seamless integration is worth something to me ATM. Spitify recently did a lot of things that make it really hard for me to like their product. One being their webplayer suddenly not loading anymore in Safari but still working in Firefox/Chrome. Had to seitch to their webplayer because their desktop client failed to play sound most of the time when coming from hibernate.
Can you not use CarPlay?
Maybe it's just be, but I don't think having to take your phone out of your pocket and connecting it through a cable as confenient as something "that just works". IMHO the required connecting cable is the biggest downside of Apple CarPlay.
Modern versions of CarPlay support a wireless mode.
There's a comment in the article laughing that a playlist could out you as LGBTQ. In some cases it could. The name of the playlist or a playlist that only contains LGBTQ artists or songs could out you. Most of my music wouldn't indicate my gender identity or sexuality but a playlist of selected songs from those same artists might.
The type of music a person listen to has no definitive relation to gender identity/sexuality.
True, but at a workplace, or in certain family types it can easily start rumors; a lot of people have strong feelings about music, and who listens to what or why
That’s a rational argument.

Not everyone is rational.

Being part of specific cultures and communities definitely does though
Anyone know of a good music app for Android that is a well-cached front-end for a self hosted music collection?
I wouldn't say it is awesome or anything but plex does everything you mentioned. Supports downloading to phone too which is nice while traveling. I have used it for years since google play went away.
