Google Messages signs onto cross-platform encrypted group chat standard (theverge.com) 25 points by edsimpson 3y ago ↗ HN
[–] biugbkifcjk 3y ago ↗ Excuse my ignorance, but is this actually implemented anywhere else? I could find that maybe WhatsApp uses it, and that Signal has their own version of it.This doesn't seem very wide spread if thats the case. [–] Vespasian 3y ago ↗ I was thinking that maybe this is in preparation of the digital services act of the European Union which will come into force next year. The act requires some chat interoperability. It would make sense for Google to try set the standard itself. But this is just a guess for which I've got absolutely no proof.
