Thank you.

EDIT: As per post below, other thread is sadly flagged. Since this is a very serious escalation of attacks on due process I've removed my request to close this new thread.

The other one is flagged.
This is one is now flagged, too.
Yeah! This site is about building awesome startups and we need to focus on building awesome startups :). Keep your head down and don't pay attention to the negativity :) :). Probably just Trump Derangement Syndrome :) :). Lots of vibrant innovation happens under autocratic authoritarianism. Right? :) :)
She was detained for writing a pro-palestinean op-ed and being considered "anti-Israel". Why is that information not mentioned in the headline?
Are you implying that this is somehow exonerative of the government? Or even adds meaningful nuance?

We happen to have a thing called the First Amendment. Whatever she said, or whatever the press published, is constitutionally permissible.

I think it's relevant information because it shows how dangerous this government is. They're not "deporting illegal immigrants," they're trying to destroy the Bill of Rights.

This after three years of hearing the right shout about "free speech".

Exactly. You are either pro-genocide, or pro-terrorist. What sort of choice is that?
On the contrary. How arresting people for being "anti-israel" could be a good thing?
> If the Department of State issues you an F or M student visa, this means that you are coming to the United States to study. You should not take any action that detracts from that purpose. Maintaining your status means:

> Fulfilling the purpose for why the Department of State issued you your visa.

> Following the regulations associated with that purpose.

She isn't being charged with a crime. What are you talking about? What does engaging in politics outside her county have to do with education?

I think this highlights how unconstitutional this administration is being. When the news first broke, nobody knew and it made sense not to put a guess in a headline.

Now they’ve responded with some very strong accusations which could be included because they’re actually saying something in public about it:

> DHS and (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) investigations found Ozturk engaged in activities in support of Hamas, a foreign terrorist organization that relishes the killing of Americans. A visa is a privilege, not a right. Glorifying and supporting terrorists who kill Americans is grounds for visa issuance to be terminated. This is commonsense security.

Of course, none of this is warranted - there’s no active threat and they could have followed the legal process but based on how quickly they moved her to Louisiana I suspect they’re hoping to blow off the court orders long enough to get her out of the country.

If what they claim to do is legal and constitutional then why the masks and plain clothes?
Because all of their claims are pig shit. I am personally one to extend a large assumption of good faith. And I'm not some Democratic partisan but rather a libertarian who would say "both sides" as recently as 2020. But after years of steelmanning and trying to engage with where they are coming from, at this point the dynamic is irrefutable - claiming to want freedom of speech, claiming other American freedoms like gun rights, claiming to want law and order, claiming to care about spending or inflation, claiming to want small government, claiming to want accountability, draping themselves in the flag while claiming to love this country, claiming to be the victims of their fellow citizens' unwarranted criticism - all of these references to lofty ideals are just to abuse good people's assumption of good faith while running interference for autocratic authoritarianism, red in tooth and claw, as they burn this country to the ground with their whiny grievance politics.
Because they can do anything they want with no repercussions.

That's it, that's all there is.

I mean it could also be to make people fear being watched/rolled up at any moment.
This makes a lot of sense. Some people will think twice about writing an article like that again. (unfortunately)

This is like the Stasi in East Germany durring the cold war.
Right. That was also on behalf of a foreign country. Like this.
