Why the duplicate comments? edit: Apparently the same comment was posted to both of two threads that were merged. Go figure.

It's likely a bug on HN's side that either caused the comment to get posted twice, or for the parent to think it hadn't posted and retry.

Can easily happen when you make repeated edits.

Yeah it's a manual process for us to go through and figure out which comments have been duplicated and should be left un-merged. Hard to get right, especially in a fast-moving story with many submissions.
