Sometime who worked for an advertisement provider told me it worked well as a signal, though. This was before it was obsolete. So few people used it that it helped identify its users.

Complaining about it is even more tiresome, also useless. Also, at times the accusations are false. Worse yet, sometimes the accusations even are motivated with by those with a conflict of interest who want to suppress the information.
This is a really common problem ("X is bad, people complain about X, people complain about people complaining about X"). It's very hard to pin the "right amount" of complaining.
But for my money, there is no ceiling on the "right amount" when it comes to AI writing specifically. It shouldn't exist, and it should be complained about every single time it happens, forever. The day we are not loudly disgusted by AI prose is the day that marks the transition from human civilization to a sad hell where humans do not deserve to exist.
