Perhaps we should not grant century+ long monopolies for out of print books, and even make copyright require a fee that the Library of Congress uses to add the material to a permanent digital archive available to the public. Then no one would need to hoard and destroy old books because the contents would already be easily available.
AI training is a distraction from the destruction of knowledge copyright already causes.
That's great, then maybe in a century and a half our great great grandchildren can finally access those books assuming IA is still around. But ideally we'd simply make our government work for us instead of against us, and we could demand some stipulations in exchange for granting limited monopolies.
