I pay a dollar here and there to promote my homepage so people will actually see it. I guess being a president really helps. I wish people would just pay a dollar to read my posts someday
As a foreigner to the US and its politics, it is both refreshing and depressing to see Trump as a President. It is refreshing because Trump is straight-forward and transparent that America has always been a country for the rich, run by the rich. In the final political outcome, his foreign policy politics really isn't anything different from other past Presidents (Democrats or Republicans) except that unlike them, he doesn't strive to pretend to be goody two-shoes. It is depressing because once the facade of democratic political theatrics is ripped apart by the President himself, Americans will invariably lose faith due to the ugly and cynical politics it exposes.
All talk about empires laws tribes, but for me the point is about the limits of capitalism / free market economy if there is no basic control of state on economy like preventing distortions, monopoly. Orwell meant socialism in animal farm but the point is the same: all are equal but some are more equal than others. Same path, slower
I think I understand what you’re saying, but I’d also argue that he’s everything but straightforward and transparent. I could totally respect a politician with a different opinion, but not a rambling idiot who has every possible opinion at once.
That's his own personal style of "distractionary" politics. It's really no different from the commonplace adversarial politicking of other American politicians (that all seem have to adopted in the last 4-5 decades), where whatever one says or do is cheered by one group and treated as something repulsive by the other. You getting irritated or offended by what he says is the desired response because it distracts you from the real issues.
And the big issue is that everyone jumps on it (professionals and amateurs alike) because of FOMO; the past 15, 20 years have been wild in that regard, with loads of things soaring in value going from Apple, to Tesla, via Bitcoin and pokemon cards / "the everything bubble" to now anything involving AI. And people want to catch the boat this time. It's one reason why NFTs took off as hard as they did (before collapsing).
And it becomes self-reinforcing, with people simping (to use that word again) for whichever thing they've invested in. I have serious doubts people actually believe in $product, but they believe other people will at the very least invest in it. And they all believe the masses are stupider (and have more money to invest) than they do.
Finally, it's the wild west. Regulation and consequences have failed, because the people enriching themselves are running the show now. At least in the US, but thanks to open financial ties, they can get money from more regulated countries as well.
Why would anyone want to pay that much for something, unless it gives them some edge.
I don't know if it is still a thing, but in the world of penny stocks and crypto there used to be subscription pump and dump channels, where influencers would charge $x / month, and coordinate pumps. "Signal" channels, as they were named.
This can't be too different. If not even more straight forward insider stuff.
Either that, or it is just another way to bribe your way closer to Trump.
Business idea for Trump: Sell access to his Truth Social posts, but bake in some latency. Those that pay most, will get to see the posts first (via API). Then after X minutes of posting the posts will go live for everyone to see. How fast you want to see the post between publishing and public access, depends on how much you want to pay. The less latency, the more you need to pay.

I have never voted for Trump, either in a primary or general election. I disagree with him strongly on much of what he does. I would describe myself as conservative, but definitely not MAGA. I'm what was Republican 10 or 30 or 50 years ago, not what they've turned into.

Define "republican". I am sympathetic to many sides. I would equate this comment to a comment that asks "how can you liberals/wokists/etc defend this" if the post were about California's "Stop Nick Shirley Act" or something.
For those without the power to change reprehensible institutions, invoking this level of tribalism only further entrenches those with power because we remain powerlessly bickering with each other rather than uniting.
im not american. i'm not even from a western country. but as a bystand observer, it's a bit late to start a conversation with republicans on social media. after cancelling them for years. you reap what you saw. you never cared about understanding their point of view and now that conversation can never be had again

I think most of us who have lived through many presidents understood that there was a decency required of the holder of the office that acted as the only true limit on their corruption. It's confounding that so many people in the US can't see it for what it is.
The signs of rampant insider trading in the US were there since congress allowed it indirectly with no-one caught, leading to this.
Where was the outrage when Pelosi and several members of congress were buying and selling stocks and front-running key legislation being passed that directly affected certain stocks in question? That sort of corruption was largely (and deliberately) ignored.
Now we have lead it to the point where corruption like this is allowed because no one was caught in the first place.
To quote what Pelosi said herself when asked about this conflict of interest: "We’re a free market economy, They (law makers) should be able to participate in that.” [0]
Essentially she has green-lighted said corruption, which she and others (except for AOC) have zero integrity even when both Trump and them are just as corrupt.

Hi, Europe chiming in here. We still have proper democracies combined with capitalism, and life is great here.
But hey, if you don't like capitalism, go to some country where they don't have it, like North Korea or Cuba.
It’s amazing how much corruption is occurring for so little money. A million dollars a month is peanuts for such clear graft.
