Ask HN: How is code review holding up at your company?

I keep hearing from friends in software engineering that code review is quietly fading away. At some companies it's become a rubber stamp, and at others it's been dropped completely.

How it looks like in your companies?

Just rolled out our in-house review agent, catches things the paid offerings do not, but comes with a comment wall... we're rolling with it anyway since it is catching real defects.

We still require a lead/cto to sign off, one cannot merge their own PR, they remain tied to a human at creation time, so there are at least two pairs of biological eyes on every PR.

...tbd what the cognitive effects will be for us.

We keep human review because AI coding is not yet good enough. We use though an AI reviewer first, before the human even see the PR, that helps us filtering most of the bad code details so human don't lose time and focus on important things. Be careful though when choosing an AI reviewer, and never use claude/codex directly for this, they will just add noisy comments and instead of helping humans will just add more work to filter which are good and which are just noise.
