Why wait, without a passport he would be an Illegal Immigrant. We have enough crooks in the United States, we don't need to import more of them to take those jobs too!
Same "I don't want to go to prison" campaign-reason of Trump and Netanyahu. Both have running court trials that would put them in jail if they don't hold political offices.
BTW: very suspicious downvote activity going on, without real counter-arguments. I guess Netanyahu private-spy-industry bot machinery is again fully deployed at HN to suppress.
Well, the most recent would be a conspiracy to fuck with public transit on election day, perhaps they could start with that, determine the degree of his culpability and involvement, and then keep going in reverse chronological order.
Well, he'll get a sympathetic reception - Trump has already called the election rigged, and is refusing to recognise Lula.
I wouldn't be surprised if there are marines and/or mercs on the eixo monumental in November. Trump will need another war/conflict/invasion/occupation, sorry, special military operation, to distract from the midterm losses, and nabbing Maduro played well in Peoria.
That's not going to happen, Lula has the popular vote. Even remotely comparing him with Maduro is foolish.
If US did something, they would be stepping out of the shadows.
That would legit cause a political crisis.
Seems like the current US admin is the only place authoritarian Fascists trying to avoid punishments for their deeds can still escape to ... Hopefully today another certain is-really PM will be coming in as well ... safe place ... until November.
Yesterday he said[0], in free translation: "I never considered leaving the country. I will surrender my passports and defend myself against this outrage, which is a clear attempt to intimidate me."
"I did not leave the country, for Brazil is always in my heart. I will surrender my passports. One day. After I am finished defending myself against this outrage."
And this man got 48% of the votes. How the hell do these criminals keep fooling so many people? Oh yea, the likes of Meta are doing their bidding. Musk, Zuckerberg & Co. should be charged for meddling in all these elections (Brazil, USA, Germany...)
It’s interesting that it just happens to be after losing an election that all sorts of accusations get made. This sounds more like abuse of power by the winners than a crime but let’s see how it plays out.
Lula threatened it during one of the debates. The order to seize his passports was issued seven minutes after he lost the election. Social media is full of posts from Lula's party saying "you're next" to other right wing politicians. The judge that issued the order is involved in the biggest scandal in the Brazilian judiciary, and impeaching him was a major reason to elect the right wing in the first place.
It's clear that no opposition to The Party will be tolerated. I'm sure everybody here can't wait to watch the fascist be punished, but this is not normal. Even the passports of the leader of the extreme left wing party PCO were seized earlier this year. He's also a known critic of Lula.
I mean, Bolsonaro is an actual crook, he’s accused of laundering billions (!!). The very fact he instantly fled the country is proof they were right confiscating and voiding his passportS. He’s not persecuted for his political opposition, he’s a criminal.
Every single politician is a crook. Take Janones, for example, the guy who set up "Lula's Army". He's admitted to the same "rachadinha" that people love to hold over Flávio's head.
When you stack the courts with judges friendly to you, then it's obvious only your enemies are going to be judged, and that it isn't going to be a fair trial.
When you then seize your opponent's passports seven minutes after he loses an election against you, it's pretty difficult to interpret that as anything other than an attempt to put your opponent in jail for the crime of running against you.
Seven minutes was just insane. The entire thing was obviously completely prepared and organized beforehand.
Even the most radical extreme left wing party in Brazil, PCO, called it political persecution. Literal communists called it political persecution.
So what's your point? He shouldn't be judged for his crimes?
> When you then order a seizure of your opponent's passports seven minutes after he loses an election against you, it's pretty difficult to interpret that as anything other than an attempt to put your opponent in jail for the crime of running against you
Or because he's a rotten piece of shit and they knew he would flee the country, WHICH HE DID
> Even the most radical extreme left wing party in Brazil, PCO, called it political persecution
My point is the court is partial. Had he stayed, he would have been put on a trial presided by judges who are Lula's own allies, including his former lawyer. You can't possibly believe he'd get a fair trial.
The court is itself tainted by scandals and in no position to judge anybody, let alone their sworn enemies. The guy who signed the order to seize his passport is involved in the biggest scandal in the history of the Brazilian judiciary.
Impeaching these judges and holding them accountable was a big reason why millions of Brazilians voted for the right wing Bolsonaro is part of. They have every reason to go after him, it's literally personal.

Do you have a source on that?

Migration rules are for the poor. Rich people immigrate via private jets, which are not controlled in any way.
