I work for a small high end cosmetics business in the European Union. That particular industry has a lot of compliance and documentation rules imposed on it by Brussels. My predecessor in the line sadly pushed using…
If 5ghz works it's a v2 I think. Install is a while in the past, so if it worked out of the box for you all the better :)
I have a friend who builds kite buggies out of carbon fiber. Amazing, gifted inventor and craftsman, zero love for computers. Going to build a raspi based automatic tempering and ventilation system with him as well as…
Most comic book and games stores have boards where you can search for groups. Craigslist maybe too? It's not such an uncommon hobby and if you find no group to join you could always start your own! Go for it. It's such…
Mostly interference, even by our own equip. We operated in an area that has multiple other WISPs and the last network step to our customers was entirely 5ghz, so almost all bands all across our network had at least some…
I just sent that link to a dozen people and am already trying to get my scattered-over-the-globe circle of high school friends to agree to a reunion of our Shadowrun group. Hadn't heard of your site so far. Cannot…
This kind of high quality, high effort comment is why I love this site so much. Thanks for crunching the numbers and making me drop my jaw at the amount of data. Just upvoting you doesn't suffice today.
I, Sasuke Nakamoto, inventor of the Bytecoins, approve of this!
Highly depends on the makeup of your electrical wiring. To get good performance: - always plug directly into walls, never into extensions, or multi plugs. - don't even try to jump phases, performance will be atrocious…
Used to work for a WISP. Got to know Ubiquity through their rock solid backhaul radios. Was hyped when they released the Unifi. Utterly and totally agree. Three UAC-AC-Pros over two stories deployed here, homeplug…
Redownload. Check again. I'm on satellite internet with the horrible latencies and frequent timeouts associated with that tech, I recently had the netinstall image for Debian fail integrity checking three times in a…

Oh god that must be so much fun. Working on projects with the intent to deliver the worst in every aspect. I'd like to add terrible UI and UX, deliberately throttling any connection to anything and the prerequisite for…

I'm a fan of the nested poultry approach to scalability. The Turducken setup as described in Advanced Festive Food Editing by Fritjof Dogemann provides excellent carbohydrate-to-weight ratio and its uncommon…
I'm probably the least knowledgeable person on HN so please understand these as questions more than objections, okay? I would think the first link doesn't affect me since I use a fairly strong unique master password and…
I couldn't agree more. Getting smart but non-nerd friends set up with OpenPGP is truly an eye opener. The rate of adoption is terrible because of that and nothing else. Even with a GUI like Enigmail, I needed hour long…
Recently build myself a home box from Ebay parts. Two four core Xeons, 72gb DDR3 memory and six onboard SATA ports. Two 120gb SSDs running Proxmox on that for virtualisation and a 2tb drive for misc storage. Bought an…
I'm npt a CS major, and I also don't have the slightest idea what that formula is about. Don't even know half of the symbols. Granted, my bachelor's isn't even a scientific degree, I'm an ex-addict turned sysadmin…
I know what you mean. Talking to people about things like, say, government surveillance. I have strong opinions on that. Nothing that this crowd wouldn't agree on mostly, but I'm the only IT guy in my life and generally…
This looks hella useful. Checking it out today. Thanks!
