I have the "Apollo Remastered" book and it is gorgeous. I'm going to buy this one too. Obviously they went back to the original film from the missions and did a full scan. NASA almost never gives access to the original…
I hate exercise. The only thing I hate more is not exercising.
This article keeps coming back up. I know so many people in Oregon who freaked out about this and started prepping go-bags and family emergency plans. Yet nobody really thinks about it much now. Such is human nature. A…
Subduction zone earthquake.
That makes sense. Thank you - in Oregon we can live without AC in an emergency.
After losing power twice for over a week in the depths of winter We installed a transfer switch to allow hooking up a generator. This cost around $200 (my brother-in-law did the electrical for free). We already have a…
I have an ancient laptop with Snow Leopard running. It keeps my Nikon Film Scanner useful since Nikon abandoned the software for these scanners rather abruptly. I've been a pro photographer since 1990 and the Kodachrome…
Hi. You are talking about me. I'm involved in multiple infringement settlements and lawsuits every year. Perhaps I should point out that I have spent thousands of my own dollars, and hundreds of hours photographing…
I've been rabies vaccinated for 32 years. I get my titer checked every 2 years. I finally got a booster a few weeks ago. I do work with wild animals including bats. Whenever I read a story like this, I wonder if more…
I don’t know what to make of people in this situation. Some claim it’s obviously psychosomatic. Possibly, but humans are actively evolving genetically and is it possible that some small group is sensitive via an…
Every one of my siblings and cousins, my nephews and nieces live in poverty. Poverty, addiction and early death are rampant in what remains of my extended family. Having a six figure income, interesting work, and…
I gave up trying to purchase Nikon OEM batteries on Amazon. It's easy on B&H, but I cannot (or do not know how to) exclude the hundreds of cheaper knock-off batteries that are inferior in every measure. I also tried to…
As a kid in the early 70's my dad would bring home a bucket and it was an amazing treat. As an adult near 60, I cannot eat Kentucky Fried Chicken. The few times I've tried the crazy level of salt* is repulsive and I…
I'm not much of a user myself, but my two brothers were heavy users and the difference between how it affected them was profound. One brother seemed to need weed to function daily. He struggled at school, never got a…
I loved Blade Runner when it came out, cheesy voice over and all. At the time, I was a regular at showings of film noir that popped up at my local film center so I understood the vibe created by Ridley Scott. And I…
I switched health providers and got a physical recently. One of my labs came back with "pre-diabetic" check marked. I asked my doctor about this and I was .1% into the metric. It could have been either side of the line.…
Isn't this also associated with white ear wax?
I've been pondering this lately because of the dynamics of myself and my siblings. We did have a rough time growing up and my mother did the best she could in a bad situation. From a large gaggle of siblings and…
If you are in the United States, in most jurisdictions, a 24 our eviction would be against the law and come with significant penalties for the landlord. 10 years in jail awaiting charges certainly means you waved off a…
This is pretty much my approach. I did buy a new jeep in 2017 but went through Costco car purchasing which has a fleet contract (I guess?) - because I was dealing with the fleet sale guy. We were able to get all the…
Not long ago I did a story about the Appalachian salamander which is a threatened species within its range. It lives in the higher elevations of the Smokey and Appalachian mountains. As the climate warms, these…
I'm curious how Craigslist is bad? I'm a regular user and love the functionality of CL. I'm certainly aware of the many scammers operating on CL but have found them to be rather easy to spot and avoid. Of course, I have…
I remember reading a book that stated human socialization evolved when the primary interactions were between family groups and small tribal communities. Everyone knew everyone. Socialization with outsiders was…
I dread the day I have to give up my 04 Outback. Love the layout of the controls and the easy adjustments. More and more I’ve been doing my own repairs which gives me great satisfaction. This last Monday I changed out…
It is a minority of people who can afford to own and maintain an RV. I commented about this elsewhere on this thread. My point was about how many people I know who do own an RV, do not seem to consider the emergency…
