I've been self-hosting my email for years. Something that wasn't obvious to me in the beginning is that you can separate sending and receiving: host the receiving yourself and use a service for sending (e.g. Mailchimp,…
Does anyone know if the voices are AI-generated? I was a little surprised; I don't think I would have questioned it if I heard them in a real game or video but since this seems to basically be a joke, I'm doubtful real…
Interesting but for photography at least, there's a massive hole: RAW support. What they've implemented is very limited and basic, nothing like parity with Lightroom or Photoshop. Just try loading a RAW photo into…
When an LED bulb dies, it's typically not the LED, it's the electronics driving it. This is worsened substantially by heat. If you have recessed downlights or something, that's close to worst-case for an LED bulb.…
I had it do the opposite: reverse engineer the protocol for the Eufymake E1 UV printer so that I can connect my own software to it. It did a pretty good job.
I think maybe your view is too narrow? It's not that people don't want to make a machine, it's that now they don't have to. When I started hobby CNC a few years ago, the only compact or desktop CNC machines were flimsy…
Where are the CPUs fabbed? They make a big deal about "sovereign" but is the CPU actually made in Japan, or do they rely on TSMC? Also odd how big an emphasis they put on AI inference when they don't build the GPU?
I wonder, rather than re-encoding when starting on a B- or P- frame, could you preserve the entire GOP losslessly but make the earlier content "disappear" on playback by shifting PTS, or bundling several frames into a…
Not a German but Duden disagrees with you [0]: "etwas in der Absicht, es zu verbessern, schlechter machen". [0]: https://www.duden.de/rechtschreibung/verschlimmbessern
I've been thinking about buying a system to run LLMs locally but the price for one that'll run Qwen3.8-27B well is quite offputting to say the least. What I've been looking at instead is inference providers that use TEE…
> Banking apps (e.g. Revolut) block GrapheneOS actively and many other apps too. You've misunderstood something here. Revolut doesn't "block GrapheneOS actively". I'm running Revolut and most of my banking apps on…
A 9950x3d has about double the multi-core performance though: https://browser.geekbench.com/v7/cpu/compare/53883?baseline=...
I don't know how you define "properly" but the study did account for this, among many other factors: "[...] We also investigated whether obesity, diabetes, and a healthy diet, all evaluated in 2 categories (no/yes),…
Init7 (the ISP in question) is pretty fantastic for peering. They're good to start with but there have been times I've just written them an email and said "hey, I know you and ASABCD have a presence at BLAH-IX, could…
25Gbps is available but not common. Most average people will buy 10Gbps P2MP from Swisscom, Sunrise, Salt etc., the really big companies with marketing all over the cities. Then they'll use WiFi with the default modem…
It's not always possible, or at least trivial. For example how do you enforce "prefer to reuse existing code over making a copy"? Is there a static analysis tool that will detect two pieces of code that do the same…
No, my point is that the price is inaccurate because it reflects peak/best conditions output and in Switzerland that isn't accurate. To generate the nominal output in winter, you need 6x as many panels as you would need…
Is that price for Switzerland? What time of year is that power available? Here's how much each energy source contributes to Switzerland's grid: https://energiedashboard.admin.ch/strom/produktion Right now, solar and…
I think that's distro-specific. Some set it up with more secure defaults (unix socket with permissions), others less (TCP socket).

What's expensive? PTP is widely supported on commodity hardware these days. I think most Intel NICs support it, quite a few Realtek and a lot of embedded stuff, down to even MCUs like STM32. Even if you want a NIC with…
You mean https://solanamobile.com/seeker ? All of the copy seems to be built around Solana, "Web3" and crypto. It doesn't seem to have any appeal outside of that. It's not clear what the software even is. The docs [0]…
What you're describing is basically https://tensorix.ai/
I don't think the protocol is necessarily the problem. For example we don't say the HTTP protocol is the problem when spammers abuse website comment forms or forums, we say it's the server on the other side. I think the…
How do you get email addresses? Do people freely and explicitly choose to sign up to your mailing list, or is it baggage that you're forcing on them without their consent? I notice that when I go to…
