I’m a Frontend Dev - I don’t miss the ‘glory days’ of IE6 and Safari for Windows one bit. Accessibility, performance, adaptive designs, state management and rich UIs are far more interesting and challenging.
It works for me - over sharpening produces worms but the denoise alone makes it worth it over Capture One for me.
My kids are 12 and 13 - wfh was is getting very old for me, especially during the school holidays when I’m constantly in ‘dad mode’. Don’t get me wrong - I love them with all my soul but sometimes I really want a break.
At least where I live (France but not Paris) all the decently paid jobs in my field all seem to be fully remote. I’d love to go back to partial RTTO but it’s simply not financially viable given the paycut and commute…
My Dad’s got early stage dementia and Facebook is an absolute nightmare. The apps infested with AI slop and the algorithm seems to fill his feed with stuff designed to get him worked up (currently badly behaved cyclists…

This (and r/stopdrinking and r/peloton for race feeds) are my only reasons to visit nowadays.
Which country are you relocating to ? Certain ones such as France don’t allow ‘digital nomads’ - there are workarounds but it inevitably involves paying taxes and social charges. Working cross borders can also be…

You obviously dont have the French bureaucracy that I have to put up with !
I can rent cars and vans from the supermarket 200m from me - the problem is the faff of waiting for a member of staff, the pre inspection, the post inspection, the cleaning, refuelling, the scanning of my drivers…
Garageband - my kids love it.
Homes? Nah they’re ‘investments’. I live in Brittany, France and new buyers, low earners etc are completely priced out of the market. My partner is a nurse and at her hospital they are closing wards because nurses,…
…because the Tories are the ones being manipulated. A PM earns less than 200k£, a Minister even less and an MP even less - they’re incredibly cheap to ‘buy’.
A folder on my desktop named “stuff”. On a more serious note I use MS OneDrive family account and iCloud - I figure if either of those companies goes under there are bigger things to worry about. I print a lot of my…
None of what you mention is important to me (an iPhone / Apple ecosystem user) and no, I am not ignorant to Apples forced limitations . If I actually wanted the same as you I'd buy an android and use linux as my OS, but…
As does most of the educated populations of rEurope and India etc - I’m an English dev working in the EU and the fact that I speak English is of no real advantage over my peers.
