This is the essence of most of the rhetoric I'm seeing in this thread: Linux is more secure because its users are more technical.
All of those options have Windows analogues though. Windows users can spin a VM, run procmon, and even have access to text editors.
Or maybe having them done by people who are willing to do them would be good.

That's not true, they maintain them as a backup in case you corner a customer service representative on the phone and they are about to have to do what you asked. That's when they tell you you need to visit a branch.
This is an interesting idea because it seems like it could be true and we've just never noticed. I'm not sure how you'd go about designing a study but I guess it would be easy to find volunteers.
Off topic but is it petty to pet peeve about the phrase "by extension"? As far as I can tell it's just a better-sounding way to say "so I'm going to assume".
