From what I’ve read/heard, a lot of the power of Pi is its extensibility but it’s a hard sell for me to try it out just because I can extend it. How is it out of the box?
1 more data point - it's very slow on my desktop which has relatively high performance as well. Using Brave if that matters.
Agreed. The important thing is to find something that works perfectly for you. Oftentimes I think people find their own perfect system and conflate it with being the perfect system.

Seems a bit strange to posit fault tolerance as an alternative to a type system. Personally, I view type systems as a bonus to DX more than something strictly designed to prevent errors
If you narrow it down to that minority that fundamentally changes how you interact with text, then I think the answer is a pretty easy "Yes".
