Unrelated to original discussion, is the phrase "industrialized country" even relevant anymore? China is an industrialized country but very different from other developed countries.
A better alternative will be for the government to provide free internet to the poor (like they do with food) than companies creating walled spaces.
There are only two countries which have homegrown companies protected by their governments. OP's comment still holds true about US companies not necessarily being good for everyone.
All of which arise from poverty, the same reason affecting humans as well.
You should name the company that treated you so badly. They would likely continue such treatment to others who are on visa.
One additional comment apart from what others are suggesting - some cultures (Asian, etc) are more social than others, you might find it a bit easier to get social with them.
