Why not just deliver this as a UI package on top of X/Wayland?
I understand the 2d-form is the real set of solutions for real parameters. What is the 3d-form?

Depends how much math you know, but Chapter 15 (Commutative Rings and Algebraic Geometry) of Dummit and Foote may be a good starting place.
