It feels like UI design froze somewhere in the mid-2010s. There are some changes here and there, but it all looks similar and very bland. I don't know if this is accurate, but I blame Windows 8 and, especially, Windows…
AIMAN to the rescue!!
I never heard of Daemon and Freedom, they sound very interesting. Thanks a lot for the bringing that up.
Interesting how much of our current timeline the show Person of Interest predicted. When I watched it back in the early 2010s, a lot of it did not feel believable, but we are living in it after only 11 years of the show…
We need to better educate non-technical users about making multiple local backups of things like password managers, TOTP seeds, etc. Yes, even writing the most important ones on a piece of paper and keeping it somewhere…
Code: The Hidden Language of Computer Hardware And Software by Charles Petzold. I read it in my second year of studying computer-science during the summer break, and it completely changed how I view computing. First of…
Taking photos or videos without explicit permission is often frowned upon in less mainstream scenes. This isn't just the case in CCC or hacker events, but also underground metal, punk, rock, raves, friteks, sex-positive…
Go to the local smaller CCC conferences, where you can pay with things like GNU Taler or cryptocurrency, and the entry is often free anyway, with a donation being appreciated or buying event merch being a nice…
If you live in Germany and would like to experience this on a smaller scale THIS WEEKEND, come to the CCC conference in Dresden, called Datenspuren, run by our local CCC Erfa-Kreis C3D2. It takes place from 18.09 -…
I was also wondering what they meant, tbh, but I have never been to DefCon, so I don't know. One ex-colleague from my previous employer was there, though, and he absolutely loved it.
This year will be the first time I go to Interfug. I found it while browsing the CCC event calendar 2 weeks ago. I have no idea what to expect, especially because the program preview currently up only lists a few talks…
Thank you very much for the effort you put into your advice!! I think I will start with WebGPU (wgpu), even though I have an Apple Silicon Macbook. I would really prefer to work with Rust instead of C++ because I am not…

I noticed myself using the term "candidly" instead of honestly a lot more. The only term I doubt I will ever use is "churn". I still don't understand why Claude like sto plug that term into random sentences every now…
But Ubuntu sticks to the year and month the OS was released. I think OP was complaining about MacOS using year+1 as the version, even though the OS is being released in the current year. I personally find Ubuntu's…
That's a really cool idea!! I was actually wondering: are we allowed to publish our work on GitHub? I already have a Github repo but I made it private and only show it to potential employers and individual people who…
I am absolutely loving it! I was very intimidated at first because the concept sounds very difficult, but Prof. Schocken and Prof. Nisan are amazing at breaking down the concepts and abstractions and making something…

Same. I remembering feeling both shame and guilty pleasure when I was 3-5 years old. I have a lot of memories from my childhood. One particular shameful memory from when I was 4 is I remember purposefully spilling…
My family are Orthodox Christians from Jordan, where the (minority) Christian culture is very orthodox, even though there is a large number of Catholics. It was very fascinating for me to see the huge difference between…
I am still somewhat new to networking concepts (currently reading Computer Networking: A Top Down Approach by Kurose & Ross), and as far as I understood, most IPv6 networks don't have a NAT, or did I misunderstand? If…
