Yeah, that's an issue, but for me, it felt more like an app rather than a wrapper. And the table support is way superior to Obsidian.
Like many others, Not books but writing my thoughts made me a better evaluator of them.
Try UpNote, I find it more usable than Obsidian,

The only thing that is making me not switch to Mem is lack of tables. I really heavily on tables for notes. And that has not yet been implemented in Mem.
