My thoughts as well. In the BC woods is only a question of when the next forest fire will come.
I think it’s more likely the Democratic party collapses. They can’t seem to find a single thing to unify on.
Thank you. Developers like you are few and far between. I find it painful when others devs constantly re write working code, instead of moving forward. It’s so easy to trash what is there. Very few have the maturity to…
We are much worse off when measuring the amount of time it takes to hit milestones. At what age are people moving out, having children, buying a home, retirement? The age for all of this has gone up massively. Because…
Winters in Calgary regularly go to -20c at night with periods of -30 to -40c. How will we able to heat our homes? I can’t imagine how much more electricity it would take to replace national gas, it could be many times…
Also there are a ton of working programers that have some experience in cobol from school. But everyone knows it’s a dead end. So yeah they need to pay very well to get the fixed they need.
In almost all other countries the rich use the government to keep competition out. All under the banner of national pride. In Canada we lock out all foreign investment in lots of areas.
I need to checkout some of these low / no code tools to see if anything is new since I last checked. In the past I have found that as soon as a server push action is required things break down pretty fast. IE display…
If find it interesting that divorce is not mentioned. The 70 year olds today are the first major wave of divorce. It’s hard hear an older generation talk about duty and responsibility now, when 40 years ago they…
Glad to hear that situations like my own are not uncommon. Most of the people I work with before Covid I have never met in person.
I call it the mainframe/desktop cycle. The 90s was peak desktop. Everything was on the local hard drive. Now everything is back on the mainframe(cloud) i fully expect it to cycle back to the desktop in some form. (we…
Women are paying a high price in the online dating world. It’s preying on their weakness the same way porn does for men. Most women don’t want to sleep around and have a large number of partners. But tinder leads them…
Absolutely, with the productivity gains I wonder if the world will need less developers.
Thanks for asking. Honestly I would like to be in the office as little as possible. I get knowing a person face to face has value, but having a fixed schedule of this would feel artificial and more draining.
That is totally cool with me. As long as I would be able to be fully remote in the same company. What I need for that is high quality audio and video for meetings. Do you think that is possible?
I would imagine many CEOs being on board with this. If your competitors are using these loopholes, you have to as well. It’s the individuals that shield their wealth by using international corporations that stand to…
The other side of this is lost now. Where grandparents provide childcare before they are too old. May parents have to first pay for childcare and then have to help out their parents.
Because I’m lucky. When I was younger I wasn’t, nothing ever really went well for me. But after close to 30 years of gainful employment, and stability in marriage and work ( This is the good luck) I’m calmer.
Really nice for integration testing. Not to be confused with unit testing. You could literally replay entire missions.
Thanks I’m thinking about it. But is it good for ios development? It’s the only thing holding me back right now. Currently on 2012 16 inch MBP.
I would imagine this could lead to interesting changes in how people are taxed. IE taxes based on savings instead of income.
Yes, at a high enough level of wealth you don’t need to own anything other then controlling shares in a corporation. Your spending cash is just a loan from a bank to you backed by the value of your corporation. All…
While I agree moving to permanent DST is kinda nuts. It’s less nuts then flipping clocks twice a year. Once we have stopped flipping we can then move back to Standard time at a future date. Fighting insanity one battle…
I don’t think so. All loans have terms and minimum payments. So if you borrow $1000 over a year at -1% you still have to make $990 in payments, or you will default.
Ohh that’s good. No longer able to own any corp or LLC anywhere. Forced to liquidate all holding and be taxed as a normal citizen.
