It builds on the Peace War, and I'd read that first. (But also, both books are fairly short, much smaller than Fire Upon the Deep.)
But maybe with proper pathfinding and better terrain generation? :)
Strong +1 for the Waking Up app. (I also ready the Waking Up book, and found it to be quite hit-or-miss for me. But the app is just wonderful.)
