One server is elementary, yes, but hundreds of thousands working together is an entirely different beast. There’s nothing easy about cloud computing and there’s a definite reason why it’s worth buying into.
Do you have any more details on this (or a link to a news article)? I'm curious but my Googling isn't turning up much.
I didn't see any while reading through the blog post...
I would argue that if a remote worker is dissatisfied with the physical setup of their remote office, that's on them, not the employer. Having a team that does not prioritize remote-first-style communication is another…

Out of genuine curiosity, do you know of any resources you could point me to to explore specific situations where Git isn't fitting the bill technologically?
Remember, yes. Scream from the rooftops louder than the positives, no. Don't forget that insults, lies, and corruption very much fall under the "behave humanly" category as well. We ain't perfect.
My illogical hope is that one day we'll have the ability to run "simulations" in parallel universes so we actually can prove that option X was better in the long term than option Y.
I wouldn't say that the changes to album structure in response to technology changes is "concerning". Art changes as a society changes since art is a representation of the human condition (and the representation is…
Excellent concerns! Do you have any resources you could link to on relevant FCC regulations? I'm a curious bugger.
> With this update, Firefox is introducing scroll anchoring, which ensures that you’re not going to bounce around on the page as these slow-loading ads load. While I love the idea of videos not automatically playing,…
Came here to say exactly this. Additionally, although someone who doesn't speak the same language as you (e.g. English) can potentially read your code and understand what it's supposed to do, I've never seen code used…
From the standpoint of a designer, this will likely simplify asset development pipelines since the new spec appears to be much closer to the iOS guidelines.

Out of genuine curiosity, do you have a list of good alternatives or some reading material on "paging" best practices? My team uses PagerDuty but I've never really questioned if there's a better method out there because…
I can't live without f.lux (https://justgetflux.com/). Dark mode in all apps possible and looking away frequently generally help me as well as parent.
Came here to say the same thing. 8601 can really helps simplify the handling of dates in APIs. http://apiux.com/2013/03/20/5-laws-api-dates-and-times/
Fair point. I tend to not like those cross-platform apps because of their generally-degraded performance so my previous comment showed a bit of my underlying bias.
While I understand your point, I would gently argue that to develop a truly great macOS or iOS app, you somewhat need to live in the Apple ecosystem to understand the design guidelines and quality that Apple customers…
A lot of the "modern tools" people use these days like git GUIs are just complicated fronts for their shell equivalents. Shells certainly are not outdated by any stretch of the imagination.
Perhaps. Wish it was an extension offered by Google (or a default feature of Gmail/Inbox) instead of a third party.
- It's okay to write code that isn't "perfect" but gets the job done. - Make efforts to simplify things and make them maintainable for the future, but not at the expense of your health, well being, or the cohesion of…
Very good question. It'd be better if they'd just written a tl;dr version of the article and put it at the top.
